Beijing-Shanghai high speed rail projet to be launched this year

The Ministry of Railways says plans for a high speed rail project linking Beijing and Shanghai should begin this year, and be completed by 2010.

The train will reach up to three hundred and fifty kilometers per hour. The railway will link the three municipalities of Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai, passing through two major economic zones - the Bohai Gulf and Yangtze River Delta. The Ministry plans to finish the design and production of train engines this year.
